Interior Design Crushes

I’ve always had a passion for decorating spaces—though I’ll admit, I wasn’t immune to the infamous teal paint trend of 2014. Thankfully, I’ve evolved since that colorful misstep. Today, my style leans toward natural textures, layered with bold accents. While I don’t yet have a home of my own to fully transform, I’m constantly gathering inspiration.
Interior design is such a broad world: traditional, contemporary, boho, mid-century, rustic... The possibilities are endless. But rather than confining myself to one specific style, I’ve always found it more exciting to blend different elements, creating a space that feels personal and unique. That’s why I’m convinced I’ll never hire an interior designer—I want the freedom to make my space entirely my own, even if it doesn’t fit neatly into any well-known design category.
With that said, here are some of my latest design crushes.
Colorful Tile
When it comes to new builds, white subway tile has become a go-to choice for kitchens and bathrooms. It's clean, but lacking in the personality department. By incorporating colorful and bold patterns, you can transform these spaces into lively, vibrant areas that reflect your personality and style. After all, tile is an opportunity to make a statement, not just for functionality. My favorite have been rectangle zellige tiles, especially green and light pinks.

Warm Lighting
I can't stand white lighting—it honestly feels like I'm living in a hospital. Aside from the cold, sterile feeling it gives off, it makes getting ready an absolute nightmare. The harsh brightness isn't flattering and can completely wash you out. That's why I only buy warm light bulbs. It's softer, more inviting, and creates a cozy atmosphere that makes any space feel instantly more comfortable.
Natural Woods
Natural wood is one of the most versatile materials you can incorporate into any style of decor—from boho to mid-century modern. It instantly adds warmth and a natural, organic feel to a space and is a classic element that never goes out of style. The best part? If you ever get tired of it, wood is incredibly easy to refresh—whether you paint it, stain it, or refinish it, the possibilities are endless. It’s a timeless foundation that can evolve with your personal style, making it a smart and sustainable choice for any home.
Linen Bedding
Linen has a beautiful, natural texture, especially when dyed. It holds rich, earthy hues that effortlessly blend with the other textiles and colors in a room. Beyond its aesthetics, linen is breathable, making it the ideal material for sheets, duvet covers, and comforters. Its ability to regulate temperature ensures comfortable sleep year-round. Plus, linen is known for its durability—it becomes softer with every wash, making it a long-lasting investment that only improves over time. Brooklinen and Piglet in Bed offer some of the best colors and patterns.
Bookshelves and Reading Nooks
As a big reader, I dream about having my own little library or reading nook. What I love most about the idea of a reading nook is that it doesn’t have to be perfectly curated. The charm lies in the personality it brings to the room. A collection of mismatched shelves, a comfy chair draped with a soft throw, and a few plants or decorative accents can create an inviting space to sit down with your favorite book.

Outdoor Space
I've been living in apartments for the past few years, so outdoor space is sparse (non-existent). I love how even a small patio can be transformed into a cozy space perfect for hosting dinner with friends, savoring morning coffee, or unwinding after a long day. With just a few thoughtful additions—like comfortable patio furniture and twinkling string lights—a once-boring patio can be brought to life.
There are countless ways to make a space truly your own. Whether you’re investing in new furniture, scouring Facebook Marketplace for hidden gems, or refurbishing a unique piece from a thrift store, the possibilities are endless. Each option allows you to infuse your personality and style into your home.

Awesome post, Lola! I thoroughly enjoyed the section about the use of colored tile. Keep up the good work!
